Kate Young Says THR Top Stylists List Led to Her Target Deal

In a Target promo video, the stylist credits THR’s annual list for helping her score her collaboration with the retailer, out next month.

var el = document.getElementById(‘targetParams’);
if (el !== null && typeof(el) != ‘undefined’) {
var srcParams = $(‘.advert iframe’).attr(‘src’);
var addParams = srcParams.split(“;”);
for (i=1;i<=addParams.length – 1;i++) {
if (addParams[i] != '=null' && addParams[i] != 'dcopt=ist' && addParams[i] != '!c=iframe' && addParams[i] != 'pos=t' && addParams[i] != 'sz=728×90') {
el.value += addParams[i]+";";
}
}

Anyone who has ever admired one of Natalie Portman’s demure dresses or coveted Michelle Williams’ colorful cool-girl frocks can capture their vibe on April 14th, when super stylist Kate Young — who works with both actresses — officially launches her namesake collection for Target

The line is comprised of under-$100 asymmetrical evening dresses, patent leather clutches that top out at $20 and high-waist satin shorts that, at $50, carry a 1940s pin-up feel. And while Young isn’t quite yet a household name outside the fashion set, she does hold heft within the industry, coming in at number four on this year’s THR list of Top 25 Most Powerful Hollywood Stylists. Last year, the former staffer held the list’s top spot, which, as she says in a video just released by Target, is what led to the collaboration  with the box box retailer in the first place.

"Each year after the Oscars does a ranking of stylists, and they listed me as number one," Young says on camera, describing how the line came to be. "And because of that I was asked to be on a TV show. During the interview they asked if I had any dreams, and I talked about bringing that red carpet magic to the real woman. And my friends at Target called and said, ‘You want to do this?’"

Williams has already worn a Kate Young for Target clutch with a Prada dress during her promo tour for last month. Which shoppers can pick up on their next detergent-and-paper towel run as soon as the line hits stores.
