The pop-punk band kept their 40-minute set almost exclusively to old hits.

Fall Out Boy rocked a secret show at Austin’s Vice Bar, the band’s first-ever SXSW gig, like it was 2008.

That was the year of the group’s last proper album, , before taking an extended hiatus that saw a greatest hits and several solo projects before reuniting for upcoming fifth album .

CONCERT REVIEW: Fall Out Boy Returns to Form at The Roxy

Not that you would know that, however, based on the band’s hits-heavy set and Patrick Stump‘s effortlessly soulful wail. It has been well preserved from the band’s mid-aughts heyday and still limber enough to nail the significant octave leaps hits like "Dance, Dance" and "Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down" require as well as fan favorites like "Tell That Mick He Just Made My List Of Things To Do Today" and "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me."

The fans had the same energy and sing-along passion as Fall Out Boy’s breakthrough years, too, with many in their late 20s eager to relive their college years. Several even crowd-surfed across the dense sea of Fall Out fans, turning the relatively tiny Vice Bar into the Warped Tour for a few surreal moments.

STORY: Fall Out Boy Announces New Album and Tour

Though the band has plenty of new music to share from the new album, due April 15, they kept their 40-minute set almost exclusively to old hits, save for new single "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" and a cover of Michael Jackson‘s "Beat It."

"We love you Austin and promise we’ll be back soon!" Stump told the wall-to-wall crowd, alluding to the band’s upcoming summer tour which will indeed include a stop at Austin’s Stubb’s BBQ on June 9.
