LONDON — Shane Meadows’ , the filmmaker’s documentary about cult indie rockers, is to hit U.K. movie theaters this summer via Picturehouse Entertainment.

Self-confessed fanboy Meadows’ film mixes previously unseen archive footage, personal experiences of those touched by the band and their music and unparalleled access to the record-breaking sell-out concerts which took place in summer 2012.

The release will follow a premiere May 30 in Manchester, England with the band scheduled to make a rare public appearance alongside Meadows and producer Mark Herbert.

Herbert produced the film for Warp Films which was fully financed by Film4 and 4DVD, the two divisions of U.K. broadcaster Channel 4.

The premiere will be satellite-linked to 100 cinemas across the U.K. with fans encouraged to ask Meadows questions either live at the event in Manchester or from movie houses around the country via Twitter.

Last year saw the band return to the stage for a series of gigs, 16 years after disbanding.

Picturehouse Entertainment is the distribution arm of Picturehouse Cinemas, a 21-strong movie theater operator recently purchased by Cineworld, the U.K.’s second largest exhibition chain.

The documentary was touted to buyers during this year’s European Film Market in Berlin by Altitude Film Entertainment.
