Pussy Riot Member Grants ’60 Minutes’ Interview in Disguise: ‘We’re Not Going to Stop’ (Video)

Pussy Riot on '60 Minutes' - H 2013

Katya Samutsevich says the group has no regrets about the protest that landed two members in jail and two others in hiding.

One of the members of Russian punk band protestors Pussy Riot tells that they have no regrets and will continue to fight, despite the fact that two were jailed and two others are in hiding over their protests of Vladimir Putin.

The band’s fifth member, Katya Samutsevich, was put on trial and convicted after the group staged a protest against Putin and his crackdown on democrat freedoms at Moscow’s largest cathedral last year, but she was released after seven months. She recently agreed to sit down with Lesley Stahl for an interview but only if her voice was disguised and she was allowed to wear a balaklava, one of the  group’s trademark masks. Samutsevich, who says few people know her identity, reveals that one reason she granted the interview to let the world know that the band still exists.

FILM REVIEW: ‘Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer’

Asked if she has any regrets about the March 2012 protest, Samutsevich replies: "No, of course not. Look what’s happened. Since the election, Putin has brought in a new level of repressive government measures in Russia."

She also claims that last year’s election of Putin was rigged and says the group is advocating for a "peaceful overthrow" of Putin.

"The elections weren’t legitimate," she says. "There was vote rigging. There was false counting. It was clear that the president put himself in power."

Samutsevich adds that the group never thought about asking the judge for leniency because "the whole process was so unfair to us from the beginning. It’s strange when you’re innocent. Are you supposed to ask for forgiveness from the judge who’s ready to put you away for several years? No, this wasn’t even discussed."

Samutsevich — a computer engineer — adds that the group has intentionally "dumbed-down" the language they use in order to get more attention (for example, the song they used during the protest used numerous curse words).

STORY: Freed Pussy Riot Member Determined to Fight

Meanwhile, Putin’s political spokesman tells Stahl that the group members were given a harsher sentence then they deserved out of fear that other protests would follow.

"It’s duty of authorities to stop the violence," Sergei Markov says, adding that the perception that Russia over-reacted has been detrimental to the nation’s image. ( and Madonna, among others, have drawn attention to the jailed group members and called for their release.)

"We doesn’t like such awful image of Russia because it create problems for us. This image doesn’t allow millions of Russians who want to travel to Germany, Italy, France and to have vacations there easily, they don’t allow to do this. It stops investments to Russian economy."

But, he adds, "we have to protect ourselves because if we will be weak, our image will be even worse."

Meanwhile, Samutsevich adds that Pussy Riot isn’t done protesting Putin just yet.

"It’s a fight, it’s an ongoing fight," she says. "Just because there was a court case doesn’t mean that we’re going to stop and shut our mouths. We have a lot of things to say. We’re going to continue to work, continue to do what we do."

Justin Timberlake’s ’20/20′ Heading to 950,000-Plus Debut

Justin Timberlake Grammy Arrivals - P 2013

If the set sells a million in its first week, it would become only the 19th album to do so since SoundScan started tracking music sales in 1991.

If another day has gone by, that must mean the sales forecast for Justin Timberlake‘s blockbuster album have grown by at least another 50,000-100,000.

On Sunday (March 24), industry sources forecast that the pop star’s new could sell between 950,000 and 975,000 by the close of the tracking week — Sunday night. (Nielsen SoundScan’s sales week runs Monday-Sunday each week.)

STORY: Justin Timberlake Confirms Second ’20/20 Experience’ Album Coming

The top 10 of the new Billboard 200 chart, where will no doubt be No. 1, will be revealed on Wednesday, March 27. Can sell 1 million in its debut week?

It’s possible that could reach a million, but sources are hesitant to go that far with their sales projections. We’ll have to see how the rest of Sunday shakes out for the album. But, it would seem that the album has a quite real shot at reaching the magic million mark.

If sells a million in its first week, the RCA Records set would become only the 19th album to do so since SoundScan started tracking music sales in 1991. The last album to sell a million in a week was Taylor Swift‘s , which moved 1.2 million when it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart last fall.

Presently, Timberlake is gunning for the best sales week for an album by a male artist since Lil Wayne‘s sold 964,000 when it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 dated Sept. 17, 2011.

On March 11 — before the RCA Records album came out on March 19 — first reported that was headed for at least 500,000. Then, once the album did drop, its sales projection jumped to 750,000 on the 20th, 800,000 on the 21st, 850,000 to 900,000 on the 22nd and now 950,000 to 975,000 on Sunday.

The Brit’s 2012 album, "+," features radio hit "The A Team."

Ed Sheeran, arguably one of the biggest breakout stars of the past year, sees his debut release,, cruise past the 500,000 sales mark this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The album, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 exactly 40 weeks ago, sold another 16,000 copies this week (up 85%), rising 51-24 on the chart. Its large gain was caused by sale pricing at Amazon MP3, which marked down the title to $1.99 for one day, March 15.

Gucci Mane Wanted for Assault: Arrest Warrant Issued

Gucci Mane

The rapper, who co-stars in "Spring Breakers," reportedly cracked a bottle over the head of a fan.

Gucci Mane is reportedly wanted by the Atlanta Police Department after a soldier claimed that he was assaulted by the rapper at a local club last week.

According to Atlanta’s Channel 2 (via WSBTV), an arrest warrant was issued for the troubled MC after a soldier approached Mane in the VIP section of the Harlem Nights club on the evening of Mar. 15. When the soldier, who is only referring to himself as "James" in media interviews, asked a security guard if he could take a picture with the rapper, Mane reportedly hit the man over the head with a champagne bottle.

Atlanta police have since issued a warrant for the rapper (real name: Radric Davis) for aggravated assault. Mane was at Harlem Nights promoting his new mixtapes  and , the latter a joint release with Young Dolph.

alum Siobhan Magnus’ Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000 for her new band, Doubtful Guest, reached its goal this week, she announced on Youtube.

With just 21 more hours to go before it closes on March 24, the campaign has raised $23,095 for expenses needed to stage a showcase at March 27 at 12th & Porter in Nashville.

The ‘90s supergroup — which includes bandmates Tony Fredianelli (Third Eye Blind), Sammy Hudson (Everclear), Peter Klett (Candlebox), and Tommy Stewart (Godsmack) — said that funds would cover equipment rentals, travel and rehearsal costs for the band, which already cultivated a monster list of songs from Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and others to perform.

The group is also trying to offset costs for an appearance at the New England Music Awards on April 13.

To thank fans, the season 9 rocker has released a "Thank You” video on YouTube.

“Thank you so much for all your support to help us reach our goal on our Kickstarter campaign,” Magnus said. “We have hit our initial goal of $20,000. That money will help cover all the expenses for our showcase which will help Doubtful Guest break into the industry."

The 22-year-old Barnstable, Massachusetts native said reaching the goal early was a “blessing."

“It leaves us a little more time to bring in extra money … like advertising and campaigning for the band, which will only help us make our product better and ultimately get us on a real tour,” she explained.

Fans contributing to the campaign were offered a myriad of incentives to donate, including song selections, meet-and-greet passes, DVDs, T-shirts and (for a $2,000 donation) round-trip airfare, a two-night hotel stay, VIP pass, dinner with the band and rehearsal access.

Doubtful Guest will appear on FOX Television Nashville Wednesday morning, March 27.

My Chemical Romance Breaks Up

My Chemical Romance - H 2013

"Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure," the band wrote on its website Friday.

The romance is officially dead.

Alt-rockers My Chemical Romance are calling it quits, with the band making the announcement on its website Friday night. In the post, the band called their experience together “a true blessing” and thanked their fans for the years of support.

During their 12 years together, the New Jersey-formed group fronted by singer Gerard Way released four studio albums, and reached platinum status with 2004’s and 2006’s .

MCR also notched several radio hits. Among them: 2004’s anthemic "I’m Not Okay (I Promise), 2006’s epic "Welcome to the Black Parade" and 2010’s "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" and "Sing," the latter which was performed on (both in the show and on tour) and used in an ad campaign.

But while their fanbase grew exponentially since first coming together in 2001, a No. 1 album eluded the band, which also included members Ray Toro, Frank Iero and Mikey Way, younger brother of Gerard.

Speaking to on the week was released in 2010, singer Way explained the band’s long process of making albums, one of which was scrapped entirely in the four years prior. How do they know when it’s right? "If you chase the art, you really can’t fail because you’ll always be able to look at yourself in the mirror," he said at the time. "And that’s not about making angry decisions, either, where it’s like, ‘Oh I’m going to see how punk we can be,’ it’s about always doing the right thing for you, your fans and your art."

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.

Read the band’s message in its entirety below.

"Being in this band for the past 12 years has been a true blessing. We’ve gotten to go places we never knew we would.  We’ve been able to see and experience things we never imagined possible.  We’ve shared the stage with people we admire, people we look up to, and best of all, our friends. And now, like all great things, it has come time for it to end.  Thanks for all of your support, and for being part of the adventure."

GOING, GOING, ‘GONE’: has the magic touch, not just for a season’s current contestants, but for former Idols who return to perform their newest hits. The latest example: Phillip Phillips’ live performance of his current single “Gone, Gone, Gone” on the March 14 results show causes the track to move up on a number of Billboard charts this week, including Rock Digital Songs, where the follow-up to “Home” leaps 15-4, the first instance of this song breaking into the top five of any Billboard tally.

On the Hot 100, “Gone” debuted last week in the anchor position, and now soars 100-59. On Hot Digital Songs, “Gone” re-enters at No. 21 and on Rock Songs, the track is up 15-12. North of the border, “Gone” is the highest new entry on the Canadian Hot 100, debuting at No. 52. Meanwhile, “Home” hasn’t given up the ghost. The coronation song is No. 1 for the ninth consecutive week on the Adult Contemporary chart. And in other good chart news for Phillips, his album The World from the Side of the Moon rebounds 14-9 on Top Rock Albums and re-enters Top Digital Albums at No. 18.

DOUBLE DOSE OF CHART-TOPPERS: The franchise adds two more Billboard No. 1s to its total, thanks to new No. 1s by the winners of seasons three and four.

Fantasia’s latest single, “Lose to Win,” jumps 7-1 on Bubbling Under Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. This is the first time the song has been No. 1 on any chart. On Adult R&B, where “Lose” held tight at No. 11 for four weeks in a row, the song has finally made its top 10 breakthrough, rising 11-8.

Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” moves off of the Hot Country Songs survey and debuts at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs Recurrents.

This is Fantasia’s 32nd Billboard No. 1 and the 381st for Underwood collects her 66th Billboard No. 1 and the 382nd for . Her total could increase again next week, as “Two Black Cadillacs” drives 4-2 on the Country Airplay list. “Cadillacs” will have to put the pedal to the metal to overtake the current No. 1, Blake Shelton’s “Sure Be Cool if You Did.”

Fantasia and Underwood are both in the top four among Idols with the most No. 1s. Here’s how the top 10 shapes up:

Kelly Clarkson 81
Carrie Underwood 66
Chris Daughtry (Daughtry) 39
Fantasia 32
Ruben Studdard 16

THE DEVIN EFFECT: Just as Angie Miller, Curtis Finch, Jr. and Amber Holcomb did last week, season 12 top 10 finalist Devin Velez has made an impact on the Billboard charts, even before he sees his own name in print.

Velez sang Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home” on the March 13 show. As a result, the original version rockets back up the Christian Digital Songs chart, 50-15. Two other Underwood songs on the same tally also improve: “Jesus, Take the Wheel” rises 22-21 and “How Great Thou Art” re-enters at No. 49.

BITS AND PIECES: “Don’t Rush” by Kelly Clarkson featuring Vince Gill is still moving up the Hot Country Songs chart. This week the track advances 38-36, while Clarkson’s “Catch My Breath” holds at No. 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart… Season three’s Leah LaBelle is working on her next hit. “Lolita,” released on Epic Records, is the first song listed on the breakout tracks for the Hot Dance Club Play chart, which means the song should be debuting on that survey in the next couple of weeks… After four weeks of moving back up the Top Country Albums chart, Scotty McCreery’s slipped last week, but now it rebounds again, with a move of 41-36. On that same list, Casey James’ self-titled debut is also moving back up, climbing 70-66.
